🇮🇪 Ireland’s National #Transport Authority has launched an inclusivity campaign to promote #diversity across the Transport for #Ireland (TFI) public transport network. Building on previous anti-racism initiatives, the campaign presents public transport as a welcoming space for all passengers, regardless of background, identity or ability. Advertisements will appear on #buses, trams and #trains, as well as on social media, sharing the experiences of people who use public transport each day. Using the tagline “Transport for Ireland is Transport for you, transport for everyone”, the campaign highlights the role of public transport in connecting communities. NTA chief executive Anne Shaw said accessible and inclusive transport is a key priority, noting it provides essential access to education, employment and independence. She added that improving transport options can help remove barriers and support inclusion across society. The campaign will run for several weeks. https://www.transportforireland.ie/news/national-transport-authority-launches-inclusivity-campaign-to-promote-diversity-on-tfi-public-transport-network/

The first of more than 100 publicly owned electric #buses has arrived in the #Liverpool City Region, ahead of entering service in the coming weeks. The zero-emission double-deckers, built by Wrightbus and Alexander Dennis Limited, can travel up to 275 miles on a 90-minute charge and feature wheelchair and pram space, audio-visual announcements, USB charging and free Wi-Fi. Purchased by the Combined Authority, the fleet supports Mayor Steve Rotheram’s target for the region to reach net zero by 2035. The rollout comes as buses are brought back under local control for the first time in 40 years. Franchising will begin in St Helens this autumn and expand across the region by 2027, allowing the authority to set fares, routes and timetables as part of wider transport investment. https://liverpoolcityregion-ca.gov.uk/news/first-of-more-than-100-new-publicly-owned-electric-buses-arrive-in-liverpool-city-region

The Go-Ahead Group has launched a national “Better By Bus” campaign to encourage more people to travel by bus, highlighting benefits for customers, communities and the environment. Running for 12 months across #England, from the Isle of Wight to #Yorkshire, the campaign uses radio, digital audio, billboards and on-bus branding. It aims to grow the 11 million daily bus users by promoting affordability, #accessibility, and lower environmental impact. Key benefits include fares under £3 on participating routes, fewer cars on the road, and support for local businesses, as passengers spend on average £32 per return journey locally. Go-Ahead says the campaign will help people see buses as a practical, greener alternative to car travel, while Roads and #Buses Minister Simon Lightwood notes government investment makes now an ideal time to choose bus travel. 🚌 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 https://www.go-ahead.com/news/go-ahead-launches-national-better-by-bus-campaign/

Go-Ahead #London has marked a major milestone with its 1,000th zero-emission bus entering service in the capital. The vehicle was charged by Seb Dance and Mete Coban. The fleet is expected to cut carbon emissions by around 60,000 tonnes a year, the equivalent of removing about 37,500 cars from London’s roads. Nearly half of the operator’s 170 routes are now fully zero-emission. Go-Ahead London runs more than 2,500 #buses and carries over one million passengers daily. It began introducing electric buses more than a decade ago and now operates 13 electrified depots, with further sites due to be converted this year. #Transport for London said the expansion supports the capital’s ambition to deliver a fully zero-emission bus network and improve air quality. ⦵ 🚌🔌⚡ https://www.go-ahead.com/news/go-ahead-celebrates-1000-zero-emission-buses-in-london/

The Mayor and council leaders have unveiled a new #Transport Vision for the West of #England, aiming to create a reliable, integrated network to support the region’s growing #economy. The plan prioritises better buses, more #trains, a new mass #transit system, improved walking and cycling routes, and upgraded streets and travel hubs. The West is the largest city-region without mass transit, and leaders aim to begin building within four to five years. Backed by £752 million in funding, more than 250 new low-emission buses, new rail stations and expanded active #travel schemes are under way. The vision links transport investment to jobs, productivity and housing growth, with further strategies and public consultation on #buses to follow. https://www.westofengland-ca.gov.uk/news/a-transport-network-you-can-trust-the-wests-new-transport-vision/

Greater #London Authority Freedom of Information release: The GLA has disclosed correspondence between Mayor Sadiq Khan and bus manufacturers under the #Environmental Information Regulations. The material includes letters from Wrightbus and Alexander Dennis in 2025 concerning #UK bus #manufacturing and zero-emission fleets. Wrightbus urged continued support for domestic producers, highlighting its #Ballymena base, growth to nearly 2,400 staff and its hydrogen and electric buses operating in London. The Mayor replied that investment in zero-emission #buses benefits jobs across the UK and welcomed Wrightbus’s role in expanding London’s fleet. Alexander Dennis provided a consultation update on proposals to consolidate UK operations in Scarborough, putting up to 400 jobs at risk in #Scotland. It called for fresh orders, potential furlough support and procurement reforms to strengthen UK manufacturing. https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/governance-and-spending/sharing-our-information/foi-disclosure-log/eir-bus-manufacturers-jan-2026

#Reading #Buses has introduced 24 Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV electric double-deckers on its flagship purple 17 and claret 21 routes. The buses entered service after a launch event at the operator’s Great Knollys Street depot on 5 February. Funded through the second round of the Government’s Zero-Emission Regional Bus Areas (ZEBRA 2) scheme with Reading Borough Council, they are the operator’s first battery-electric double-deckers. One carries ZEBRA branding, while another features “warming stripes” showing local temperature rises, developed by the University of Reading. The buses use Driventic electric drive systems with batteries of up to 472kWh, providing a full day’s operation on a single charge. Thirteen fast chargers have been installed at the depot. They replace biogas double-deckers on route 17, which are being redeployed to remove older diesel vehicles. A further eight Enviro400EVs are due to enter service on route 26. https://www.alexander-dennis.com/reading-buses-launches-24-alexander-dennis-enviro400ev-electric-double-deckers-on-flagship-routes/

A Westminster Hall debate on UK bus #manufacturing was held on 27 January, led by MPs Jim Allister and Euan Stainbank. As of Q3 2025, 144,429 buses were licensed in the #UK, with 17% built domestically by Alexander Dennis, Wrightbus, and Switch. The sector relied on a broad supply chain, so even UK-built #buses often used imported components. Around 4,400 people worked for the three main manufacturers, while 53,000 were employed indirectly. Investment in UK bus manufacturing exceeded £180 million annually. Job security remained a concern, with potential closures and relocations affecting hundreds of roles. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cdp-2026-0012/

Arriva has retained the North #London 102/N102 bus route after winning a competitive tender, securing a new seven-year contract with #Transport for London from November 2026. The 24-hour service runs between Edmonton Green and Brent Cross, providing a key orbital link across outer North London and carrying more than 6.2 million passenger journeys each year. Operations will continue from Arriva’s Palmers Green garage, where the route has been based since 1947 and is supported by around 300 staff. As part of the new contract, 26 zero-emission electric #buses will be introduced, supporting the completion of the garage’s electrification. The investment forms part of Arriva’s wider £730m programme to expand electric bus operations across London. https://news.arriva.co.uk/news/arriva-uk-bus-wins-competitive-tender-for-north-london-route

A Department for #Transport study explored why people choose multi-modal journeys combining #buses, #trains, or #trams. Research with 67 participants (online, interviews, focus groups) found #travel choices are mainly influenced by convenience, cost, comfort, and safety, while #sustainability rarely affects local trips. Barriers include unreliable services, poorly aligned timetables, high planning effort, and unclear real-time information. Enablers include frequent services and contactless payments. Key measures to encourage use are better timetabling, lower fares, and unified travel information, with integrated ticketing and improved interchanges as supporting factors. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/factors-influencing-multi-modal-public-transport-use
