@mwichary@mastodon.online I like this idea and think about it more often than is probably healthy. There are problems. If you show alternative stuff, how do you get to the standard stuff? Maybe it needs two rows? If you have F-keys *and* touch bar, do you keep the hard keys and have duplicate soft functions? The UX is tough. That said, it's like Apple took one shot and gave up instead of iterating and refining. The one concession they made was the hardware esc key. It feels like they left it to die on the vine instead of cultivating it to achieve its original vision. I find it Ironic that a Java app had one of the best implementations.

@mwichary@mastodon.online Also, in Safari, I really miss it for form autofill. When filling out a form, my zip code was always just right there instead of hiding behind two mouse clicks. And if I wanted to fill my name, it would fill just my name instead of accidentally filling out the entire damn form or not exposing the one field I want to fill. (This happens a lot recently. I want to fill just one thing, but it only offers options to fill in more than just that one thing.)

@mwichary@mastodon.online I fired up my old laptop. The Touch Bar defaults in IDEA are pretty nice. Contents change based on context. When programming, you can choose different run configurations and start a run or debug session. During debugging, you get regular stepping functions. Press opt for more esoteric ones. You can customize it, too. Add a Rename button and never remember shift-F6 again! Same for extract variable, reformat code, git commands, or any other action IDEA supports. You can also add extra bars based on modifier keys or combinations of them. Going from a bug (attached) to ctrl-opt-d for Debug is such a step backwards IMO.

It took over 4 seconds to launch when I tapped the complication (Series 10). Weather took under a second. Also, a bit more info on some of the wider complications (like Photos) would be nice. Too bad my iStat sub doesn't carry over :/

@bjango@mastodon.social I think just working would be a good feature. This is what I see when I raise my wrist, and it stays like this until the watch goes to sleep again. (Series 10, latest OS) When I installed the complication it showed the correct temperature. A few hours later it showed the temperature from when it loaded (tapping the complication updated it). Now, several more hours later, it shows what you see below.

Looking back at my past couple relationships, I now think that when someone goes out of their way to say “I’m really good at communicating,” what they really mean is, “I’m really good at producing words that closely match my internal thought model with little-to-no regard of how other people perceive them.”
